Owls Teams Run Strong In The 2018 USCAA Cross Country National Championships

Virginia Beach, VA - The Warren Wilson Owls cross country teams finished off a successful season today with a strong showing at the USCAA National Championships.

The women ran first and placed 5th out of the 11 teams. Senior Sophie Willihnganz led them home, placing 22nd overall in a time of 26:43 for the 6K.  Willihnganz's time was more than a minute faster than she ran last year on the course and similarly junior Ellie Goldstein, who was next in for the Owls running 28:26, also lowered her previous best time on the Virginia Beach nationals course.  Sophomore Kiersten Keith-Pedersen was the third runner in for the team with a time of 29:58 and was followed by sophomore EllaJane Nelson at 30:31, for a 42 second improvement on her previous 6K time.  New runners this year freshmen Emme Mcmannus and Ellei Burmeister also pushed hard finishing in 32:56 and 34:02 respectively.  Asked what they thought of the race, a couple of women replied "it's a really good race for everybody and it was awesome!"
