Swannanoa, N.C. - The Warren Wilson Owl's men's and women's cross country teams eased into their 2018 season with a friendly dual meet racing against Montreat College.
The women's team ran first with a short 2 mile race to strech the legs and were led by senior Megan Stuber in 14:16. She was followed by sophomore Kiersten Keith-Pederson in a time of 14:33, with Junior Ellie Goldstein after her with a time of 14:52. Freshman Emma Strong was the next runner in for the Owls at 15:56 followed by fellow freshman Emme McManus in 17:40 and Ellei Burmeister in 18:25.
The men's team ran a 5K and were led home by sophomore Julian Rohn-Cappellaro who ran 18:15 for his first race of the year. Next in was freshman Sam Colston who completed his first race as an Owl in 19:38 with junior Sam Moore following him in 20:20. Sophomore Benj Welland and freshman Malcolm Mitchell-Bennett finished things off in 27:35 and 28:09 respectively.
Coach Bruce Hills had this to say about the race, "The runners were happy to get their first meet of the season behind them and are training hard in preparation for their next race in two weeks."
The Owls will be looking to set the pace at the Southern Wesleyan University Warrior Invitational in Central SC on Friday September 14.
