Greenville, S.C. - The Warren Wilson cross country teams enjoyed the cool conditions in Greenville, SC today with many runners having strong races. Owls head coach Bruce Hills said "Many of the runners ran PR's today and the women's team average for the top 5 runners of 21.54 is the fastest average for a women's team since I arrived seven years ago. I am proud of how all the runners did today."
The women ran first and were led by Sophomore Megan Stuber who ran a PR for the second meet in a row with a time of 21:26. Sophomore Sophie Willihnganz was right on her heels while also running her second PR in a row and taking nearly a minute off her previous time to finish in 21:27. Sophomore Sophia Houghton was next for the Owls running 21:29 followed by sophomore Abby Traywick who ran her fastest time of the year at 22.11. Sophomore Ellie Goldstein also hit a new PR today finishing the 5K in 22:26 and EllaJane Nelson rounded the team effort out for the Owls with her fastest race of the year finishing in 25:57.
In the men's race senior Sam Morkal-Williams had another strong run to finish 5th overall in 27:08. Freshman Julian Rohn-Capellaro also had a great race following closely in 27:13 for 6th place. For the second week running sophomore Sam Moore lowered his PR running 28:13 for the 8K. Freshman Benjamen Welland ran his first ever 8K today finishing in 41:09
The teams are preparing to compete at the USCAA National Championship on November 10 in Virginia Beach, VA.
