Vandenbergh brings a wealth of knowledge to the game after having a successful professsional playing career. Vandenbergh most recently played for the Chicago Red Stars in 2010, 2011, and 2013 in the NWSL. She has also played professionally in Denmark for Hjorring's Fortuna, in Australia for Central Coast and Sydney F.C and in Brazil for Santos Futebol Clube and Cotia Fustal Clube. Over the years, Vandenbergh has also competed in the W-League semi-pro leagues for the Asheville Splash and the Charlotte Eagles years totalling 8 years. Vandenbergh was a member of the 2006 Charlotte Eagles’ squad that advanced to the league semifinals. 

Vandenbergh graduated from Clemson University where she was a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She participated in the NCAA Tournament in each of her four seasons while leading the Tigers to three straight years of finishing the season ranked in the top 25 including a high of 14th in 2002. Vandenbergh appeared in 80 games over her career making 65 starts. She ended her college career starting 60 consecutive matches for the Tigers, a streak dating back to the beginning of her sophomore campaign in 2003. Vandenbergh tallied 24 points on five goals and 14 assists over her four-year college career.

Vandenbergh joined the Owls Staff in 2012 as an assistant coach under Stacey Enos who was the head coach at the time. Vandenbergh continued to be an assistant the following season and then in 2014 became the Associate head coach and subsequently head coach in 2015.
