Women's Basketball Takes Down Johnson University

Swannanoa, N.C. - The Lady Owls earned their first victory of the year with a 73-43 victory over Johnson University.

The Owls took the lead from the first quarter and never looked back. They would, at one point, extend the lead to 32 points, with 7 minutes left in the game. The Owls caused defensive havoc as they forced Johnson into 20 turnovers and ended the game with a season high 16 steals. The defense also held Johnson to 11% from the 3 point line and only 25% from the field.

The Owls were led by Danaisa Dumas who had 33 points. Danielle Hinkelman followed her with 10 points. Danaisa also led the team with 6 steals. Eliniya Black led the Owls with 4 assists.

"This was a great team win and a confidence booster for this young squad. We really needed a solid win and we got that tonight. When Avery Prather is healthy we are a completely different defensive team. Tonight our defense was fun to watch. We were able to get steals and easy baskets all night," stated head coach Robin Martin.

The Owls will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Mars Hill University to take on the Lions Tuesday, October 20th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
