Mars Hill, N.C. - On Sunday the owls hosted their first meet in over four years at the Mars Hill University pool against LaGrange College. It was also their senior night where they celebrated the dedication and hard work that seniors Michael Nowak and Alie Covington have shown to the program over the years.
The men's team unfortunately could not defeat LaGrange, however, they had several excellent swims. Nowak received a best time in his 50 Freestyle with a time of 35.04. Freshman Malcolm Mitchell Bennett was able to achieve two best times in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 29.32 and the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:07.30.
The women's team suffered a tough loss with a final score of 57-61, loosing to LaGrange by 4 points. The team was still able to pull off several impressive finishes. Freshman Sarah Scott placed first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 31.52. Junior Mara Trowbridge was also able to have excellent swims in her 1000 Freestyle with a time of 13:00.59 and in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:18.22.
"Everyone has been working so hard these past few weeks with the tough workouts we've been doing. I think we'll be very pleased with the results in three weeks at our conference meet when we are well rested. Everyone's hard work will pay off and I am so excited for us to share that has a team!" said Trowbridge.
