Warren Wilson Defends Home Turf with 2-1 Win Over Crown College

The Warren Wilson Owls had a strong performance despite a tight scoreline Saturday afternoon against Crown College.  The Owls outshot their opponent 34-15 and had 8 corner kicks to Crown's 1. The Owls dominated possession to start the game.  However, Crown would find the back of the net against the run of play at the 15:43 minute mark to put Crown up 1-0 against the Owls.

The Owls responded strongly by creating several chances on goal, but the Crown goalkeeper made a total of 18 saves to keep Crown in the lead.  Despite several chances to score, the Owls went into the half trailing the match.

The Owls starting the half flying with Freshman Solomon Love getting a shot on goal a minute into the half, but again the Crown Keeper kept the Owls at bay.  The score was leveled in the 71st minute when Freshman Will Feehan had a moment of individual brilliance on the right flank and served a perfect ball into Love.  Love made an acrobatic side volley attempt that saw the ball find itself in the back of the Crown net to level the score.

Despite the Owls dominance, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.  With a minute left in the first period of overtime, Feehan was recklessly fouled in the box and the Owls were awarded a penalty kick.  Feehan would step up to take the kick and finish the ball for the Owls to win the match. Feehan ended the match with a goal and assist.

"All credit to our players for getting the result.  We dominated the game but had difficulty scoring. Crown did a good job sitting in against us and it worked for them.  I told the team at the half to keep chipping away. It felt like a game that we were going to have a tough time scoring, but if we held true to our game plan, we would win the match eventually.  All credit to the players for getting it done on the field today" said Coach Scachetti.

The Owls are back in action for their final home game of the season on October 20th against UC Clermont.
