The Owls battled the University of Pikeville Bears to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday evening. The Owls recorded 7 shots, while UPike earned 18.
The contest entailed a back and forth match that saw both sides create good chances on both ends of the field. The deadlock was broken in the twenty-fourth minute by a good team press effort. Freshman Eliot Baker applied pressure to the UPike outside back, that resulted in the ball popping out loose to freshman Will Feehan who was put in on goal for a one on one finish to put the Owls up 1-0.
The next goal came off of more pressure from the Owls when a ball came loose at the top of the box for freshman Henry Argueta to place the ball over the UPike goalkeeper and into the back of the net to increase the Owls lead to 2-0.
UPike battled back by looking to get in behind the Owls backline. With three minutes left in the half, the Bears found space in behind the Owls to put them in one on one with Owl goalkeeper Solomon Love. Love did everything he could to apply pressure on the Bears striker, but the Bears were able to decrease the Owls lead. The first half concluded with the Owls leading 2-1 at the half.
A strong second-half battle from both sides saw the game go back and forth. The Bears leveled the game off of a corner kick where the Owls made many efforts to clear the ball, but the Bears were able to find the back of the net.
The Bears continued to apply pressure as the half went on, with the Owls getting some chances as well. The Owls held strong to keep the Bears at bay and the game concluded with a 2-2 draw. Freshman Goalkeeper Solomon Love helped keep the Owls in the game with 9 saves on the night.
The Owls are back in action this Saturday at 2 PM against Blackburn College at the Berea Working Colleges Tournament.
