Swannanoa, N.C. - Men's soccer hosted Crown College in a USCAA Division 2 showdown. It was the first match of a home and away series between these two rivals. Crown struck first, taking a 1-0 leade early. The Owls equalized with a great goal from Evan Gammons, his second in a two matches. The half ended with a flurry of chances by both teams, and Figueria had a handful of clutch saves to keep the Owls in the match. The teams went into the half deadlocked, 1-1.
The second half started quickly for the Owls, led by Levi Jackson, who scored a brace, put his first in of the day from the center of the pitch, about 25 yards out. The Owls found their forward Lucas de Lorenzo Eberly on a fast break goal created by winger Mario Vigil. The goal was originally ruled offside, however after a brief conversation, the ball had been taken from the goal keeper, therefore, Eberly opened his college scoring account. Jackson would strike one more time. After beating Crown's midfield on the dribble, he spun off of a defender to create a shot that painted the upper 90 to give the Owls a 4-1 advantage. Crown would convert on a penalty kick with 20 minutes remaining in the half, but it wasn't enough, as the Owls were able to hold on to secure a 4-2 victory over the Crusaders.
The Owls look to keep things rolling as they head to Piedmont International September 8th.
