Swannanoa, N.C. - The Warren Wilson Owls played their final game in Devries Gymnasium on Saturday as they played host to Blue Lights College.
The Owls and Thoroughbreds would go back and forth in the first half, with the Owls taking a 49-47 lead into the half.
The second half would be controlled by the Owls for 15 consecutive minutes. With just over 5 minutes left in the game the Owls would hold a commanding 17 point lead, 101-84. The Thoroughbreds chipped away at the Owls lead, scoring off of 4 consecutive turnovers by the Owls, and with under 30 seconds left the Owls held a 3 point advantage. After sending the Thoroughbreds to the free throw line, where they would tie the game, the Owls had the final shot. Jordan Gant, who had been magnificent all night, went coast to coast and shot a floater over 2 defenders as time expired, sealing the Owls victory, and notching his second 40+ point performance this season.
"This brought back alot of memories from my first season when another JG (Justin Gonyea) knocked down a game winner. This game was fun to coach and im sure it was fun to watch. What we displayed today was Warren Wilson Basketball at it's finest, for the most part. This season has been a struggle for us, and to be able to finish the regular season with a win, and finish the season undefeated at home in February, the foundation just continues to be layed. Now our focus is bringing home this conference championship," stated head coach Anthony Barringer.
Gant finished the game with 43 points, 2 short of tying his career high. Fellow junior Jaquann Lockhart finished the game with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Junior point guard Trey Brown dished out 11 assists.
The Owls will play in the first round of the first ever EMAC Conference Tournament this Tuesday, as they travel to The Apprentice School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
