Elizabethton, TN -- The Warren Wilson Cycling Team competed at Milligan College in Elizabethton T.N. on Apr. 6 and 7. The race weekend consisted of an individual time trial, a team time trial, and a road race on Saturday, and a criterium on Sunday. In addition, riders had the opportunity to participate in a Beginner's Racer Program prior to the start of Sunday's races hosted by Owls Head Coach Mandy Gallagher and the South East Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC).
This race served as the conference championship for the road season and the Owls fought hard in deep fields each day. Bella Cimeno had excellent results throughout the race weekend, finishing first in the individual time trial for women's B/C, fourth place in the women's B/C road race, and ninth in the women's B/C criterium. Other notable results include James Mayer finishing in tenth place in the men's B criterium, Benj Welland finishing with personal bests in 14th place in the men's D road race and 8th place in the men's D criterium. The team also secured a 1st place finish in the men's B team time trial and would go on to finish in 9th place out of 25 teams for the conference season overall.
Head coach Mandy Gallagher said, "This was an exciting conference road season. We have a bunch of new riders on the team and it is exciting to see them develop into strong, confident racers in such a short period of time. I've had the most fun coaching this team and am so proud of the work they've done!"
Up next for the team is a non-conference race weekend on April 27 and 28th at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.
